checking in
Life has been busy here at the Bakke household, what else is new, right?
Here is a recap of our last few weeks....
1. After several visits to our pediatrician and Ear, Nose and Throat specialist it was determined that Annika needs to have her tonsils and adenoids out. She is set up for surgery on the Monday after Easter. We are planning on a week of recovery time split between momma, daddy and Grandma Bakke. Annika is SO excited to have a sleepover at the hospital with momma. What a funny girl!
2. The following week Annika spiked a fever that lasted a whole week, which then turned into an ear infection. She enjoyed lots of days at home resting with momma and daddy and some yummy pink medicine.
3. I spent a day at the Minnesota State Capital lobbying for Education Minnesota, our state teacher's union. It was a great day meeting with legislators and talking about issues facing k-12 education in our state.
4. The season of parent-teacher conferences is upon us. I spent several evenings last week preparing conference folders, grading assessments and mentally preparing for my 21 conferences. I wrapped my conferences up this past Tuesday and now Jason is "enjoying" his two nights of conferences.
5. Jason is a basketball reffing machine! This week he had three section playoff games and traveled to Winona, Rochester and Hastings. I am so glad that the basketball season is almost over.
6. Kate went in for an additional early childhood speech assessment. We have been worried about some of her beginning and ending sounds. Our school district had a speech language pathologist take a listen and she determined that Kate is still within the age appropriate benchmarks for a 3-4 year old. If we still have concerns in the next 6-12 months we can bring her in again.
7. I was informed this past week that I will no longer have a position teaching first grade at Crystal Lake Elementary. Due to declining enrollment at my school they will be cutting a section of first grade. Luckily I will still have a teaching position in the school district. More details on that to come.....
8. Jason's birthday is coming up this week- on St. Patrick's Day. So we are heading out of town next weekend to meet Grandma Bakke and Grandma Great in New Ulm, MN. We'll have fun swimming in the pool and hanging out with family.
9. Spring Break is just two weeks away- thank goodness! It's even starting to feel like spring. The snow is melting like crazy and we can even see grass in the yard. It's definitely puddle jumping time with rain boots. (One of Kate and Annika's favorite outdoor activities.) We are planning an adventure to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. We will be staying at Buccaneer Bay Waterpark. It has a pirate ship in the kiddie pool- ARRRRR! Our little pirate Kate can hardly wait.
10. Kate and Annika passed into the next level of swimming lessons at FOSS swim school. They start Littles 3 on Monday. They LOVE swimming. We can hardly believe how much they have learned in just five months. This summer at the cabin I guarantee they'll be jumping off the dock and swimming like big girls.
Take care and God bless!
