This past week, Jason and I did something we've never done. Take our girlies on a plane ride. We went to Florida! Disney World to be exact. It was amazing!
We even enjoyed the heat and humidity of Florida. After a not so warm spring and start of summer here in Minnesota, we basked in the sunshine and warmth (that's an understatement) of Florida in July.
The girls did great on the airplane, loving every minute of it. Momma was way more nervous than them. We arrived in Orlando around noon, just in time to spend our first full day at Magic Kingdom.
Two words for Magic Kingdom. Uff da!
Oh my gosh Jason and I were like deer staring into headlights. We didn't know which way to go. Left? Right? Straight ahead? Turn around. We were overwhelmed.
Once we finally got our bearings, we started having fun. We checked out everything before doing anything. Which sort of drove Kate and Annika nuts, but we had to figure out everything first. Imagine the state fair on it's busiest day. That's Magic Kingdom every day of the week, no matter what time of day.
Did I mention Kate's response to stepping outside for the first time? In her lovely, classic sort of whiny voice she says, "Ittt'sssss so hot........." Yes, darling Kate, we're in Florida. It's hot here. All the time. She so takes after her Grandpa Cloutier (who could live near Hudson Bay and not complain about the cold once).
It didn't take long for us to purchase a misting fan ala Disney. $17.00 later Kate felt some relief from the heat. It's amazing how a little water and a breeze make such a difference. No wonder we live in the land of 10,000 lakes.
We saw Disney characters all over the place. Stepped into stores to cool off and enjoyed a ton of great food, including lunch at Cinderella's castle, breakfast with Lilo and Stitch and a luau at the Polynesion Resort. Every day we ventured through a different park.
Most of the time we had great weather, but while at Animal Kingdom it started to rain. We figured it would be a Florida summer rain shower, last an hour and then it would be done. It wasn't so. After an hour of waiting in the only store in Dino Land we broke down and bought ponchos for the girlies and ran to the bus. The rain didn't stop until that night.
The rest of our trip included more Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Lots of Disney characters and lost of fun. The girls were troopers. They walked the entire week. We never had to get a stroller or carry them. They let us know when they needed to cool off and step into a store or get a snack or sit at a show to rest. We enjoyed great shows and rides. And we didn't even get to everything.
